From left: Sable, Montana, Anya
Sable left today. This makes me sad. She said recently that, of all the things I write, my one-minute plays are her favorite. I laughed! I love brevity – which reminds me of one of the best poems I carry around in my heart (it says so much with so few words):
Outwitted
He drew a circle that shut me out —
Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout.
But Love and I had the wit to win:
We drew a circle that took him in!
- Edwin Markham
To Sable and Montana:
I was a great friend to your dad in high school. I knew your Grandfather and Grandmother well. Roger and I spent a lot of time together on and off the tennis courts. He and I went to USC together and played tennis there as well.
He was a great man, friend. I admired him greatly - he was disciplined, always did the right thing. He was kind and compasionate to everyone.
I used to call him regularly near Christmas to complain about not getting a Christmas card from him. Though he never returned my call - I knew he must have smiled at those calls. I will miss him. The world is worse off without him.
